An American Hoover Convertible Special Model 34. The 'Special' models were lower-cost Convertibles - they lacked headlamps, and the outer bag jacket was sealed with snap-fasteners, rather than a zip. The cord was shorter than on the more deluxe models, the furniture guard only protected the front half of the chassis, and there was no handgrip on the handle. This cleaner was very kindly gifted to me by my dear friend Jeff Parker. It came all the way back from Chicago with me in my luggage!
